Awa's Journey is a multi media collaboration between playwright Beverly Andrews, Union Dance, Bafta nominated video maker Dan Saul, African Express musician Mosi Conde and director Danielle Urbas. The piece looks at the plight of refugees - a key issue of our time. Awa's Journey is told through two different time frames, one set during our current turbulent times and the other is set during the reign of James 1st. The piece asks the question - what are our attitudes about race and how are they conditioned by the times in which we live? Awa's Journey will be presented on the 20th of August at Shonibare Studio's Guest Projects.
The performance will be followed by a Q&A by Syrian human rights activist Ghias Aljuni and writer and former CEO of Index on Censorship Rohan Jayasekera.
