Online Event: Investing Across Nigeria and Sweden

Online Event: Investing Across Nigeria and Sweden

In May 2023 G.A.S. Foundation welcomed Economics researchers and Masters students from the Stockholm School of Economics, Alexei Moore and Miranda Hagborg for a month-long residency in Lagos. They were the recipients of the Yinka Shonibare Thesis Scholarship, launched in cooperation with Art Initiative and Misum, Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets.

During their residency, Alexei and Miranda investigated the differences and similarities between investing in Nigeria and Sweden. They considered the role of private capital markets in Sub-Saharan Africa and how they relate to sustainable development goals, as well as the role private capital markets play in Nigeria's social and economic contexts. This discursive and participatory event will present some of their findings whilst encouraging dialogue and furthering the discussion with audience members based across the two countries.

This event took place on 12th July 2023 and is available to watch here for anyone who was unable to join the live session.

G.A.S. Foundation's debut SSE residents, Alexei and Miranda are thesis research partners in the Master in Finance program and recipients of the inaugural Yinka Shonibare Thesis Scholarship. Alexei has previously studied a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Sydney, specializing in Finance, Economics, International Relations, and Accounting. Miranda has studied for a Bachelor of Business Administration at Stockholm University and a Bachelor of Real Estate and Finance at the Royal Institute of Technology. She has professional experience in investment banking and private equity. Their research is centered around the role of private capital markets in Sub-Saharan Africa and its relationship to the Sustainable Development Goals.
